Could you be a Trustee of new local Housing Association?

Could you be a Trustee of new local Housing Association?

  • West Kent YMCA has managed a successful supported youth housing project for over 20 years
  • However, our building Ryder House is being sold [originally by March 2017], so we need to buy it
  • We need to set up a new YMCA Housing Association before we can buy Ryder House
  • This could help us develop and deliver more vital housing for vulnerable young people in West Kent
  • We are recruiting people with the passion, commitment and skills to run this new local charity as board members
  • Board members are unpaid volunteers each being a charity trustee and company director

Vision  |  West Kent YMCA helps young people build their future.  We are a local Christian charity committed to helping young men and women, of all faiths or none, particularly at times of need

Mission  |  We provide the foundations that young people need, including:

ü  A safe and secure place to live

ü  A safe and supported place to learn

ü  A great environment in which to develop and grow, and

ü  An excellent standard of complete support, designed for and with young people

We aim to be the best provider of these young people’s services and will work with partners who share our values and aspirations

We plan to set up West Kent YMCA Housing Association Ltd; register with the HCA [Homes & Communities Agency - who regulate social housing and invested some £1.7m in Ryder House] and then buy Ryder House by March 2017, to provide quality housing and support for more ‘at risk’ young men and women.  We have £500k in grants and are confident of securing further grants and loans to buy Ryder House for c£1.2M.

Board skill mix is critical to ensure we meet HCA standards of governance.  We need to recruit, develop and train a new board of trustees / directors, and key advisors covering core skills:

ü  Risk analysis, assessment and management

ü  Property management

ü  Financial management

ü  Collaboration / consultation with residents

ü  Clear understanding of all HCA standards and transparency

We are seeking five new trustees [click HERE to download the advert] with skills or experience in governance or senior management in social housing or related fields in business, charity or statutory sectors

Please contact us confidentially to visit, or find out more, or if you could encourage any senior staff, directors or trustees to volunteer as a board member or advisor
